We washed up on the shore half dead. Concerned people took carried us lovingly to a place where they fed us and nursed us back to health. We got fat and lazy. We overcame our reticence and grew to trust and love our rescuers. We would have been happy to stay there until time caught up with us and finished what we came so close to that day we flopped on the burning sand. They knew they couldn't keep us forever. They had a plan to return us to the water, although the never discussed it with us.
