Seasonal Affective Disorder

Even in sunny southern California we get the midwinter blues. I calculated the distance between the winter solstice and today, 41 days. Then I counted the same number of days backwards to think about the amount of daylight we had on November 11. I checked here: www.sunrisesunset.com and, yep, the length of the days on those two dates are pretty near the same. On November 11, though, we were heading into the darkness. It hadn't taken deep root in our souls the way it did a month later, the way it has as it settled there near the bottom. Now we're nearly halfway through winter. Soon it will be Groundhogs Day. We'll celebrate that.
